Merino sheep wear their wool 365 days a year. In sun. In rain. In cold weather and hot.

Their fleece naturally helps them adapt to their surrounding conditions.

To retain their warmth when it's cold, to wick away excess heat when it's hot, and to manage moisture daily.

It is this incredible adaptability that fascinates us.

It is a natural fiber that helps regulate body temperature, wick away moisture, and naturally resist odors.

An everyday ally, regardless of the season.

At Périple, it all starts with merino.

Why do we love merino wool so much?

Naturally regulates temperature

Wool retains heat when it's cold and helps wick away excess heat when it's warmer.

Wicks away moisture

The fiber naturally absorbs moisture to keep you more comfortable during exercise.

Gentle on the skin

Merino wool is incredibly fine and soft. Unlike other types of wool, it isn't itchy.

Resists odors

Wool helps limit the growth of bacteria. It requires fewer washes than synthetic fibers. This is good for your garment and for the planet, and it's also very practical when traveling!

Protects from sun and insects

Merino offers good natural protection against UV rays, making it an excellent choice for long days spent outdoors. Long clothing helps protect skin from mosquitoes and other insects during outdoor activities.

Natural, renewable, and biodegradable

Merino wool is a renewable fiber that naturally biodegrades at the end of its life. A material in harmony with the environments where we love to move, explore, and breathe.

Not all merino wool clothing is created equal. Several factors influence softness, durability, and performance.

We chose the best, without compromise.

  • Certified Woolmark® for quality

The Woolmark® certification guarantees high-quality wool meeting rigorous performance and durability criteria.

  • Free from harmful substances, OEKO-TEX® certified

Our fabrics are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Class 1 certified, one of the strictest standards in the world for textiles. Because comfort also means trusting what you wear.

  • No synthetic fibers added

We've chosen to preserve all of merino's natural properties by using pure wool, without added polyester or nylon in our garments.

We believe that such a remarkable material deserves to be highlighted, rather than diluted.

  • Mulesing-free wool

    Because animal welfare matters too.

Mulesing is a farming practice used in some regions to protect sheep from flystrike. The wool we have chosen comes exclusively from responsible farms where this practice is not used.

Frequently Asked Questions About Merino Wool

Wool

Merino wool is a precious fibre that requires time, expertise, and numerous quality controls. It takes nearly a year to grow on a sheep's back before being shorn, washed, spun, knitted, and transformed into fabric. Added to this are recognised certifications, responsible breeding practices, and high quality standards. At Périple, we have chosen to start with an exceptional material to create garments designed to last.

Yes. Our collection will gradually evolve with the arrival of new fabric weights to offer clothing adapted to even more seasons and activities, while maintaining the same quality standards.

No. We use ultra-fine merino wool measuring 18.5 microns, known for its softness. The finer a fiber, the more pleasant it is against the skin.

Thanks to its natural structure, it is odour-resistant and effectively wicks away moisture. In many cases, simply airing out the garment between uses is sufficient.

Yes. Merino fibers wick away moisture while helping to maintain a comfortable temperature, even during exercise.

GSM (grams per square meter) measures fabric density. Our 240 GSM merino is the most versatile: it’s ideal as a base layer and comfortable all year round. Our 360 GSM merino, with its brushed fleece interior, is denser, warmer, and designed as a mid-layer for cool and cold days. Both offer the same natural merino properties; only the level of warmth and usage differ.

Merino wool is a natural fiber that comes from the merino sheep, a breed known for its exceptionally fine and soft fleece. Thanks to its natural properties, it helps regulate body temperature, wicks away moisture, and resists odors, making it an ideal material for both outdoor and everyday wear.

Maintenance

When cleaning is necessary, machine wash your garment in cold water on a delicate cycle with a mild detergent. To preserve the quality of the fiber, we recommend washing it separately or with other delicate items to avoid friction caused by zippers, velcro, or other abrasive elements. Then lay your garment flat to air dry.

We advise against it. To preserve the softness, shape and longevity of merino wool, it is best to air dry it.

Opt for a mild detergent designed for wool or delicate fibers. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which can alter the natural properties of the fiber. We highly recommend Eucalan detergent, enriched with lanolin, which you can find in our online store.

If you wish to remove some creases, use a low-heat iron or a clothes steamer.

If the care recommendations are followed, your garment will retain its shape and properties. Just avoid hot water and the dryer, which can cause natural fibers to shrink.

Yes. It is perfectly normal for merino wool to pill a bit during the first few wears, particularly in areas subject to friction (backpack, belt, thighs, etc.). This does not affect the quality or performance of the garment in any way. Simply remove them gently with a fabric shaver to restore its original appearance. Pilling is a sign that a natural fiber is alive... not that it is wearing out.

Yes. Thanks to its natural moisture-wicking properties, merino wool dries relatively quickly.
